Biography
Professor Idress Hamad Attitalla, Ph.D., is a Libyan academic and researcher specializing in Molecular Evolution, Microbiology, Molecular Plant Pathology, and Plant–Microbe Interactions. He is a Professor of Molecular Evolution at Omar El-Mukhtar University in Libya and currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Medical Technology.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Evolution from Uppsala University, Sweden, following a Master’s degree in Molecular Plant Pathology and a Licentiate degree in Mycology and Bacteriology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. He has more than three decades of experience in university teaching, scientific research, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership.
His research has focused particularly on fungal pathogens, Fusarium wilt, microbial biocontrol, induced disease resistance, molecular identification of microorganisms, mycotoxins and aflatoxin contamination, biofertilization, and medicinal plants. He has published research articles, contributed to books on herbal medicine, presented his work at international scientific conferences, and participated in editorial and peer-review activities for scientific journals.
Professor Attitalla has also taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, including Microbiology, Mycology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Evolution, Genomics, Proteomics, Plant Biotechnology, and Gene Therapy. His academic career reflects a strong combination of research, teaching, scientific collaboration, and university leadership.
