I have been a staff physician practicing Internal Medicine & Pediatrics since 1996 and have led Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs) since 1999. In 2010 I established the Cleveland Clinic’s Shared Medical Appointment (SMA) Program in response to how SMAs could serve our organization addressing access while maintaining patient satisfaction and quality. In my current role, I oversee the development, training, and implementation of all SMAs across the organization, supporting a wide range of medical conditions, care settings, and a virtual SMA model.
I have presented and collaborated with healthcare organizations at the international, national, and local levels to share our SMA outcomes and best practices. To date, our program has delivered over 500,000 shared visits.
Our experience demonstrates the transformative potential of innovative care delivery models. By reimagining how care is provided, we have improved access, satisfaction, and maintained high-quality outcomes.
