Biography

Dr. Kuauhyama Luna-Ortíz has a strong surgical background, with more than 30 years of hospital experience, primarily at the National Institute of Cancerology, where he works as a surgical oncologist specializing in head and neck surgery. He also works as a surgeon at Manuel Gea González Hospital in the same specialty. He complements his professional career with private practice at Médica Sur Hospital and ABC Observatorio Hospital.

Interested in organ-conserving surgery in larynx with the several surgical treatments of open surgery and laser surgery, as well as a multidisciplinary group of medical oncologists and radiotherapists.

Reconstruction of defects in the head and neck area with microvascular free flaps, such as fibula, antebrachial flap, lateral leg flap and others.

World expert in carotid body tumors with participation in international and national groups.

In the academic and research fields, Dr. Luna Ortiz K has an outstanding career in clinical research, which has led him to attain the highest level, Researcher Level 3, in the National System of Researchers (SNI).
