About Conference

Global Gerontology 2026

As the proportion of older adults accelerates worldwide—research in ageing and gerontology is more crucial than ever to improve health outcomes, quality of life, and social inclusion.
Ageing 2026 conference will provide a global forum to exchange cutting-edge discoveries, discuss pressing challenges, and share successful interventions in aging research, with dedicated attention to the advances and ongoing needs in Malaysia and ASEAN countries. It aims to catalyze multi-sectoral partnerships to foster age-friendly environments, innovative healthcare delivery, and policies that uphold dignity and support active aging.

Ageing and Gerontology: Research Pain Points and Progress

Pain Points

  • Increasing multimorbidity and complex geriatric syndromes (frailty, dementia, depression)
  • Integration of psychosocial and biological research approaches
  • Insufficient longitudinal and intervention studies on subjective well-being of older adults
  • Healthcare access disparities including malnutrition and food insecurity
  • Limited integration of research findings into policy and practice

Progress

  • UN Decade of Healthy Aging (2021–2030) galvanizes global coordinated efforts in ageism combat, integrated care, long-term care, and community support
  • Advances in age-friendly environments, biomedical research, technology integration, and digital health solutions facilitating aging in place
  • Establishment and expansion of National Policy for Older Persons and Senior Citizens Activity Centres (PAWE) to promote social engagement and support
  • WHO Age-Friendly Cities recognition
  • ASEAN-wide policy frameworks, such as the Regional Plan of Action for the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Ageing
